What We Do

About Making Learning Work

Making Learning Work addresses the government's 14-19 initiative, engaging employers, schools and students in connecting education and Work Related Learning to develop skills, learning and the future workforce.

Making Learning Work was formed in December 2001 by two partners Nicki Harris and Robert Llewellyn.

The Making Learning Work team are heavily involved with schools across the country delivering Work Related Learning packages.

The company has built strong ties with schools and students and has formed well established relationships with an innovative and forward thinking attitude.

Making Learning Work has developed material to co-ordinate Work Related Learning into a successful online Curriculum Centre, Advisory Service and Help Line.

The significant aims are to raise levels of attainment through high quality complimentary styles of learning for all 14-19 year olds throughout the country with an underpinning goal of 'Success for All'.

What is Work Related Learning?

A government initiative addressing the new 14-19 agenda. Companies are introduced to 14-19 year olds in full time school or college based education. It offers young people the opportunity to work with an employer on a structured Work Related Learning experience that supports work undertaken in the classroom. The initiative is positive, challenging and relevant to current studies and future career prospects.

How does it work?

After an initial meeting between the schools and a member of the Making Learning Work team students are identified and are then matched to employers taking into consideration, capabilities, occupational interest and curriculum studies.

Why has the programme been created?

To offer a structured or complimentary programme which links students to their occupational area and to the school curriculum. Bringing students and employers together, provides the host company with an opportunity to act as a mentor, understand changes in educational courses and make a visible contribution to the local community.
